Your story – Menet, France 2023 – watercolors and ink on cotton paper 76x56cm
„I hold your story -it’s my fiery torch – in the dark times“
Let’s take a look at the crisis from a different perspective. Behind its destructive and oppressive side lies a deep space for growth, rediscovery, and deepening of our roots. What keeps a human being standing when the world is crumbling? This question began to occupy my mind during my therapeutic sessions. I stumbled upon the theme of roots, which for me, as a child from a so-called incomplete family and also three cultures in last two genarations, posed a significant question. In the beginning of adulthood, I found my roots sparse and unstable, lacking the necessary care. I dug through the soil of my own and family memories and found stories. Stories that revived the roots and through the bravery of their heroes and ancestors gave me strength and hope. I found roots that I hadn’t seen before. And so I began to inquire about the stories of others. Family, local myths, difficult experiences that strengthened them. Sharing our stories around the imaginary fire connected the history of us all and serves as a reminder of the goodness and strength of the human being that each of us carries within.
The painting contains 28 + 1 stories donated to me by courageous beings artists who shared space with me in the village of Menet in August 2023. And I am deeply grateful to them.
